7 tips to relieve stress… fast Print E-mail
By Cassie MaDonna  »  When you are really stressed and your heart starts pumping fast, try these little exercises for quick relief:

  1. Release the tension. Squeeze your fist really hard and focus on it. Now take a couple of deep breaths while squeezing. You’ll start to feel your heart slow down and beat at a normal rate.
  2. Think positive. When you replace one negative with two positives the outcome becomes happier. Your thoughts are just that – thoughts.  They will go away unless you want them to stay. Just let go.
  3. Remain focused. Instead of doing 20 different tasks and only getting a quarter finished, concentrate on one main task and finish it. Accomplishment feels good.
  4. Snacks are great. Healthy snacks like an apple or some cherries can help you de-stress for the simple fact that they give you a break and time to enjoy something nutritious and energy building. It can  vitalize your mind, body and spirit.
  5. Pets are human’s best friends. No matter what your pet may be – a dog, snake, turtle… spending time with it alone after work can be more invigorating than talking it through with another human.
  6. Massage yourself. Rub your ears, temples, forehead, wrists… what you’re doing is releasing the tightness that develops when you are under stress.
  7. Reflection. Realize what is stressing you out and let it go. Holding on to feelings causes blockage of other feelings. It’s like a clogged pipe – push those feelings out through screaming (not at someone) in the bath, an open field, or in your car.

Always remember to take breaks throughout the day; time alone is time well spent to gather your thoughts and to release tension from the busy day.
