Something we can smile about Print E-mail
By Marlon Skyers  »  Remember when you were a kid, after Halloween you would look down a heaping bag of candy and just before you could devour the entire bag, your parents would invoke the petrifying fear of sending you to the dentist? That same night you would be haunted by nightmares of razor-sharp drills and old magazines. Finally the nightmares are over! Dr. William Rodriguez has brought family dentistry firmly into the 21st century with the introduction of the advanced Waterlase and LaserSmile dental systems – which in most cases means no needle, no anaesthesia, no drill and no numb lip.

Dr. Rodriguez is the first certified Waterlase dentist in Mississauga. He is also a member of the Ontario Dental Association, the Halton-Peel Dental Association, and two other dental study clubs, which have allowed him to constantly stay on top of new procedures, techniques and technology.

“I have a passion for continuing education and I block off my calendar almost a year in advance to attend conventions, seminars and dental association meetings,” says Dr. Rodriguez.

With the induction of laser and computerized dentistry and state of the art equipment, he is able to make porcelain restorations such as crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays in the office in one single visit.

“The technology and procedures these days make dentistry enjoyable compared to 20 years ago. We have child patients who are excited to see us, which was unheard of before. The parents find it unusual that their children love to come to the office,”  he says.

Dr. Rodriguez (or Dr. Rod as he is affectionately known amongst his patients) has been a popular community figure for over 11 years now and he continues going above and beyond client expectations: “Wowing our customers is a very important part of our service; we are not only dentists, but we are also counselors, advisers, confidants and a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on for some of our patients.”

When asked what the most fulfilling part of his job was, he replied: “Seeing people smile again. When you give a person a new smile they gain back their confidence and they are ever grateful to you. It’s a life-altering experience for them and a satisfying, fulfilling experience for me. You have to see their expressions, it’s priceless.”

Dr. Rodriguez’ belief in providing people with great oral health sparked him to create a new program named GR8SMYLS. “My mission through GR8SMYLS is to be able to help individuals achieve sustainable oral health.,” says Dr. Rodriguez. “Good health begins with good oral health. It’s amazing how pleasant smiles can improve the self-esteem and confidence of the individual.”
